Introducing the first Saint Javelin Vyshyvanka called “Syla” (Strength)!

Vyshyvanka (Вишиванка) is an iconic traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt with a legacy spanning centuries. Infused within its intricate embroidery are symbols drawn from Ukraine's vibrant history and culture, each pattern weaving a narrative of heritage and identity.

Our linen vyshyvanka is adorned with symbols that represent Ukraine’s strength (from top to bottom):

The wheat stem holds profound symbolic significance, representing fertility, prosperity, and the bountiful harvests of Ukraine's fertile lands. As a staple crop in Ukrainian agriculture, wheat has been intertwined with the nation's cultural identity for centuries, serving as a vital source of sustenance and livelihood for generations. It also serves as a poignant reminder of the dark chapter in Ukrainian history – the Holodomor, symbolizing both the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of oppression and the enduring struggle for sovereignty and independence.

Triangles (as "terrikons" of Donetsk region) serve as poignant symbols of the territory within Ukraine where some of the most extensive and bloodiest battles unfold. Spanning across the eastern, southeastern, and southern regions of the country, including Donbas, Kherson region, and Zaporizhzhia, these areas bear witness to the relentless struggle for sovereignty and freedom.

The Ukrainian trident, known as Tryzub, has been associated with various interpretations, including representations of the forces of nature, the Christian Holy Trinity, and the unity of the Ukrainian people. The origins of the trident trace back to ancient times, with evidence of its use dating back to the early medieval period in the region known as Kyivan Rus. Over the centuries, the trident evolved as a symbol of the ruling princes and later became the state emblem of Ukraine.

Berehynias (protectors), depicted with swords raised above their heads, serve as an ancient symbol of protection, embodying the spirit of guardians safeguarding home and family. In this interpretation, the ancient symbol represents the modern defenders who bravely wield weapons to safeguard Ukraine.

Present in many cultures around the world, including in Ukraine, the Tree of Life on our vyshyvanka is shaped like a sunflower, symbolising rebirth and victory of life over death. In the context of Ukraine's victory and post-war reconstruction, this symbolism speaks to the collective effort of its people to come together, heal the wounds of war, and forge a path towards peace and prosperity.

Our vyshyvanka is not just an embroidered shirt, it's a timeless symbol of Ukrainian heritage, culture, and pride. Become its proud owner today!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be aware that the shirt will be available for sale in North America and ship quickly, but there will be a slight delay between your order date and the shipment date for our European customers. I started Saint Javelin with hopes of raising $500 by selling stickers to help out Ukrainians under the threat of a full scale invasion.

Then Feb 24th changed millions of peoples lives. Saint Javelin has donated over $2M to support frontline defenders, purchase medical and protective gear (IFAKs, tourniquets) and support humanitarian efforts required in Ukraine.
