About ‘Our Lady of Mariupol’ artwork
Inspired by the bravery of the defenders and people of Mariupol and Azovstal, ‘Our Lady of Mariupol’ print is a one-of-a-kind piece of history created in Ukraine by Ukrainian illustrator Maksym Palenko.
The artwork depicts the Lady of Mariupol as Pokrova, extending her arms to protect the heroic defenders of Mariupol from shelling and destruction. Her veil or cassock shows the inner structure of the Azovstal plant catacombs that became a temporary shelter for Ukrainian fighters and civilians. Under her arms, covered in her cassock, the protectors of Mariupol are peering into your eyes.
