Zip up, and your face is out of the wind.

The half-zip runs up into a fitted hood. Keep zipping and it closes around your face like a balaclava, with an elastic-bound opening for your eyes. The wind on your face and neck gets shut out by the same layer that keeps your body warm.

Unzip it and it's a normal hood again.

Zipped

One less thing to pack, dig out or lose.

A separate balaclava spends most of the day in a pocket, and it's never the pocket you check first. This one is part of your hoodie, so it's there the moment the wind picks up, and gone again with one pull of the zip.

No draught. No cold zip on your chin.

There's a storm guard behind the zip, so the wind can't whistle through the teeth. At the top, the pull tucks into a zipper garage, so you can zip right up to your face without cold metal against your skin.

Warm when you stop. Dry when you move.

It's cut from Polartec 200 Midweight, Polartec's original midweight fleece. It holds heat when you stop, breathes while you move and dries fast. Wear it under a shell in real cold, or on its own when it's cool and dry.

Go off-trail without shredding the sleeves.

Rock and branches shred plain fleece at the forearms and sides. Here those spots are reinforced with stretch nylon, so the rough stuff hits nylon, not fleece. It stretches, so it never holds you back.

Warm hands, and no cold air sneaking in.

Two angled zips open into one big kangaroo pocket, with fleece on the side against your hands. The bungee hem cinches with a cord lock to keep cold air out, or loosens to let heat out when you work hard.

Why it’s Polartec

Warmth with 45 years of cold behind it

  1. 1981

The fleece that started it all

Polartec says its team at Malden Mills created the original synthetic fleece in 1981, and that Time magazine later named it one of the most important inventions of the 20th century.

  2. Gen II

In the US Army’s Gen II cold-weather kit

Polartec 200, the fleece your Ninja Hoodie is cut from, was the fleece in the US Army’s Gen II cold-weather bib overalls.

  3. Today

In the US Army’s current cold-weather system

Polartec says the US Army’s Gen III cold-weather system, standard issue since 2007, uses its Power Grid and High Loft fleeces.

  4. In your hoodie

Warm when you stop. Dry when you sweat.

Polartec 200 Midweight holds heat when you stop, breathes while you move and dries fast. We ship it into Ukraine, and your hoodie is cut and sewn there.

Why not just a regular fleece hoodie?

Most fleece hoodies stop at your chin.

Even a good technical fleece hoodie usually gives you a hood and nothing more. When the wind picks up, your face is out in it, and your balaclava is wherever you left it.

The Ninja Hoodie goes further

  • Your face stays out of the wind. Zip the hood all the way up and it closes around your face like a balaclava. Nothing extra to pack.
  • Warm when you stop, dry when you sweat. That’s Polartec 200 Midweight, Polartec’s original midweight fleece.
  • Made in Ukraine. We ship the Polartec fabric in, and the hoodie is cut and sewn in Ukraine.

One hoodie. No balaclava to lose.

Who's behind it

The Saint Javelin story

  1. February 2022

    The million-dollar sticker

On February 16, 2022, former journalist Christian Borys printed 100 stickers of a saint holding a Javelin missile to raise money for Ukrainian charities. He sold over 10,000 and raised over $1M.

  2. Late 2022

    From meme to maker

We started making our gear in Ukraine. In late 2022, we built and donated military winter gear to Ukrainian soldiers, which went on to inspire the Defender collection.

  3. Since then

    Proving our gear

Our gear has been proven around the world: in the hardest conditions in Ukraine, high in the Alps and even in the Yukon backcountry.

  4. Today

    100% Made in Ukraine

We built our production from the ground up. We bring the best materials we can find, like Polartec fleece, into Ukraine and work with manufacturers across the country to make our gear.

Questions we get

How warm is it?

It's a midweight fleece, warm enough for most of the winter. In real cold, wear it under a shell; on cool, dry days it works on its own. It isn't a substitute for a shell.

Can I wear the hood open?

Yes. Unzipped, it's a normal fitted hood. Zip it up when the wind picks up.

Is it a quarter-zip?

It's a half-zip. The zip runs from mid-chest up into the hood.

What colours and sizes are there?

Midnight Black, Olive and Ranger Green, in S to XXL. The size chart is on the product page.

Where is it made?

100% Made in Ukraine. We ship the Polartec fabric in, and the hoodie is cut and sewn in Ukraine.
