“I’ve been hiking for about five days with a 45-pound backpack. Super comfortable, and I don’t have to worry about it peeling or making marks on my fleece.”

Worn by the heroes of Defender 2026

Rima in a training room in Ukraine

Rima, one of the three heroes of Defender 2026, wore the Abrasion-Resistant Crewneck while teaching combat medicine in Ukraine. A layer that has to work through a long, physical day, every day.

Where this came from

From a sticker to a crewneck that survives a 45-pound pack

Saint Javelin began in 2022 as a sticker. Every Defender collection since has been about making gear that holds up to real use. This is where it has got to.

  1. February 2022
    It started with a sticker

Journalist Christian Borys prints a sticker: a saint in green robes holding a Javelin. He hopes to raise a few hundred dollars for Ukraine. Days later Russia launches its full-scale invasion, and the saint goes around the world.

  2. 2022
    Made in Ukraine

We stop being a meme and start being a maker. Production moves into Ukraine, and we start learning how to make things that last.

  3. November 2023
    The first Defender

Our first cold-weather collection: a fleece, and the padded work socks people still buy from us today.

  4. 2024
    Polartec arrives

Defender moves to Polartec: quarter-zip fleeces, a sherpa hoodie and thermals. Customers start calling them the best fleece they own.

  5. 2025
    Into the mountains

The Karpathian Sherpa fleece, shot with Ukrainian veterans hiking the Carpathian mountains. Our first real step into outdoor gear.

  6. 2026
    Tested in the Yukon

Defender 2026: Polartec Power Grid, Micro 100, 200 and High Loft, cut and sewn in Ukraine. Before it went on sale we wore it for five days and 55 km off-trail in the Yukon backcountry, with nights down to −10 °C.

  • Carry a heavy pack all day without the straps chewing through your fleece: stretch nylon across the shoulders and upper back.
  • Lean on rock and push through brush: nylon on the elbows and down the sides too.
  • Keep your phone or permit safe: zip chest pocket with a locking slider that will not work itself open.
  • Dump heat on the climb: underarm ventilation panels.
  • Warm for its weight with almost no bulk: Polartec Micro 100, the lightest fleece in Polartec’s classic range.

Questions we get

How warm is it?

It is our lightweight fleece: warm while you move, light enough to keep on all day, and thin enough to layer under the Ninja Hoodie or the High Loft Jacket when it gets cold.

Will the panels feel stiff?

No. The panels are stretch nylon (91% nylon, 9% elastane), so they move with the fleece.

How does it fit?

A regular fit with room for a base layer. Size guide on the product page.

Where is it made?

Cut and sewn in ukraine, by teams who keep working through blackouts.

Colours?

Midnight Black and Oatmeal, sizes S to XXL.

Tough gear, for tough people.
