1

Enjoy mountain peak views in warmth

The warmest layer in the collection: Polartec High Loft's tall, airy pile holds more warm air.

Made for the cold stops: camp, belays and summits.

2

Wear a pack without wrecking it

Stretch nylon across the shoulders and upper back, on the forearms and down the lower sides.

It takes the pack straps, hip belt and elbows, so the pile doesn't get crushed or worn down.

3

Ventilate exactly how you want

Full-length two-way zip.

Open it from the top, the bottom or both, to let heat out or get at the layers underneath.

4

Warm hands, nothing lost

2 angled zip hand pockets.

Hands in at every stop. Zip them shut and nothing falls out.

5

Seal the heat in, or let it out

Bungee hem with a cord lock.

Cinch it to keep draughts out. Loosen it to vent when you get moving.

The material we use

High Loft

  • Ultra warm
  • Holds warm air
  • Breathable
  • Dries fast
The original fleece

Polartec created synthetic fleece in 1981 and supplied the fleece behind Patagonia's first Synchilla and The North Face's Denali. High Loft is its tall-pile fleece: a taller, airier pile that holds more warm air for its weight than dense fleece.

Army issue

The Army’s “smoking jacket” is made from it

That’s the US Army’s Gen III cold-weather Level III fleece jacket, nicknamed the “smoking jacket”. High Loft is the fleece in this jacket.

Why not just a regular fleece jacket?

Most fleece is just a layer. High Loft is warm enough to be the jacket.

Its pile is taller and airier than dense fleece, so it holds more warm air for its weight. Wear it on its own on dry, still days, or under a shell in real cold. Drag the line to see the difference.

The HighLoft goes further

  • Ultra warm. The warmest layer in the collection, warm enough to be the jacket.
  • Warm when you stop.Made for the cold stops: camp, belays and summits. Breathable and fast-drying when you get moving again.
  • Built to carry a pack.Stretch nylon takes the pack straps, hip belt and elbows, so the loft doesn't have to.
  • Made in Ukraine. We ship the Polartec fabric in, and the jacket is cut and sewn in Ukraine.
